TS2015 Marias Pass BNSF GE ES44DC Physics Mod Pack

This is the BNSF ES44DC Physics Modification pack for the Marias Pass route. The test you will see in this video consists of 3 locomotives accelerating a 60 car Autorack freight train up to 70 MPH before utilizing only dynamic braking to stop.

This is a freeware pack; in no way is it to be used for commercial purposes. You are free, however to further modify the physics enhancements found in this pack for personal use if you so choose.


THIS IS NOT A SOUND UPGRADE PACK. Physics adjustments made around the existing sounds.


The purpose of this pack is to adjust the locomotive weight, motor amperage limits, and traction and braking effort values for more realistic operation.



General Parameter Change Log:


  1. Adjusted HUD ammeter limits so that max traction amps is 1800 and max dynamic brake amps is 920. This is based off of info from BNSF ES44DC operating manual.

  2. Adjusted tractive effort rating and curve for locomotive based on the specifications listed below.

  3. Adjusted dynamic brake effort rating and curve for locomotive based on the specifications listed below.

Specific horsepower and tractive effort ratings used in calculation for individual locomotive variants:


  1. GE ES44DC (GE GEVO-12; 4700 GHP)

  2. Starting tractive effort of 142,000 lbs (631.64 kN).

  3. Continuous tractive effort of 105,680 lbs (470.08 kN) @ 12.9 mph.

  4. Traction horsepower at wheel is 4,390 hp (3,276.12 kW); efficiency rating of 93.4%.

  5. Max Dynamic Brake effort of 74,675 lbs (332.171 kN) @ 26.2 mph to 9 mph; extended range sawtooth function between those speeds; linear fade from max brake effort @ 9 mph to 0 lbs @ 3.5 mph.

  6. Dynamic Brake horsepower at wheel is 5,212.6 hp (3,890 kW).

  7. Increased weight of 190.509 metric tons (420,000 lbs).

  8. Maximum speed of 75 mph.

  9. Fuel consumption @ notch 8 is 210 gallons per hour.


IMPORTANT; Install Instructions


  1. Locate the following directory: (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RailWorks\Assets\RSC\MariasPass)

  2. Open Railworks_BNSF_Marias_Pass_GE_ES44DC_Physics_Mod_Pack.rar

  3. Before proceeding to step 3, make sure your "RSC" folder is NOT set to "read only". You can change the folder settings using the properties function. IF the "RSC" folder is read only, the files will not overwrite existing files when you attempt step 3.

  4. Drag the file folder from the .rar in step 2 into the directory you opened in step 1. Overwrite if asked.

  5. The installation should be complete. Run TS2015 to check.
